Drill the Teachers; Educate the Kids

This article by Alan November compares technology development in education to using a drill bit. He says that we are often too focused on training to use a tool without the clear vision of how we can transform learning for our students. I too believe that we as teachers need to observe how students learn and we need to reflect on the value of that kind of learning. We need to involve our students in the staff development so we can learn as they do. My favorite part of the article was when November said, "As soon as teachers are free from worrying about the technical details, their minds are more available to think creatively about what their students could achieve." I too feel that once the stress of the whole process is no longer there, the teacher will be able to use the technology to their advantage in helping their students learn.

The Thirteen Colonies: The Making of a Nation

Hello class! I hope you enjoyed our lesson on the Thirteen Colonies. Today we did a small introduction of the Colonies and learned all about the New England Colonies. In the coming week we will be learning about the Middle and Southern Colonies as well!

In this blog, I would like you all to...

* Pick one of the New England Colonies (New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut) and discuss why you would want to live there.

* What makes that colony more attractive to you than the others?

* What kinds of people live there?

* What job opportunities are available?

* What is the daily life in that colony?

Please respond to at least two other classmates. There is also a fun video for you to watch after called The Making of a Nation.
